January 29th, 2010Three Of My Page 1 Sites Vanished Off Google

Time for another blog update, continuing on with last weeks updates from the week starting January 4th 2010. Last week was a real week for things to test my flexibility and here is the second thing that happened last week.
One thing I do every day is check my search engine positions for my keywords to see what pages I am on for them. Around Tuesday I opened up my Google browser and typed in ‘Work From Home DVDs’ to see if I could find my web site SimeonTuitt.com, hit ENTER and couldn’t see it. I tried again with a different search term ‘Work From Home CDs’ again NOTHING, both those results are usually on the first page.
I then typed ‘Home Working Jobs’ where I am usually page two of google, again NOTHING, then I typed ‘Work From Home’ where I am usually page 5 – 7 again NOTHING. By now I am starting to freak out, so I hit in my name ‘Simeon Tuitt’ then it came up in first place so that allowed me to relieve a sigh of relief somewhat that my site hadn’t been banned for some unknown reason.
I then checked out another site of mine for the term ‘Cat Training Book’ the day before the site was in 4th place page 1 of Google, now NOTHING was coming up. I started to really wonder what the heck was going on, so I tried another site of mine I have had for a number of years and typed in ‘Write An eBook’ NOTHING, then ‘How To Write An eBook’ once AGAIN NOTHING!
Now I am really freaking out because these are 3 sites I have recently been working on to rank well on the search engines and then all of a sudden they were gone. Wednesday came, I checked again, NOTHING, Thursday came, still NOTHING and Friday NOTHING.
By the time Friday came I was feeling so deflated, losing page 1 search engine ranks you have spent a lot of time getting and money is like the closest you can get to the feeling of being fired. After all if you are on page 1 of Google and getting traffic that brings sales, leads etc and then one day thats taken away, no traffic, no leads means NO MONEY!
Long story short I dropped into Warrior Forum to ask around to see if anyone has noticed anything with their own sites and whether the all mighty big G was updating their systems. Then I heard they have implemented something new that will speed up search engine results, a new search process called Caffein which is ment to be super fast and help provide more relevent results.
Saturday again I did a search and checked a few times Saturday and eventually I could find my main site SimeonTuitt.com for the keywords above and I was in 1st place for ‘work from home dvds’ ‘work from home cds’ and around second place for ‘work from home information’.
So after being off the search results for a few days I actually came back a lot better than I was previously. My cat training book site also reappeared but had dropped to 7th place from 4th but will see what happens over the next few days with that one.
My eBook site still has not reappeared and not sure when it will but since the last two have already, I expect that to return also.

A Very Bad Start To 2010, Rhea Let Me Down

Time for my second update to my blog, I did mean to make them more often but have had a few problems at the start of 2010 which I have had to be very hands on to sort out. I will do a few separate mini posts today to update you on the chaos from the week starting Monday 4th January.
As you will know from my last post, this year was supposed to be a rather hands off year for me starting from Monday January 4th 2010 when I actually got to hand the reigns of my business over to Rhea who I had spent a lot of time the week previous bring up to speed.
Monday came and I was thinking, fantastic I can finally chill, Rheas been given the tasks to do so I will check and see if shes sent me an email to say shes started. So I checked my e-mail, nothing… So since there is an 8 hour time gap between where we both are, her being 8 hours ahead and telling me she would have a late meeting at her current job, I thought I have nothing to fear as the previous week shes been reliable and kept me up to date.
So I knew she would be starting when she got home. The meeting over ran and she got home, sent me a message on skype asking if it would be okay to start the week on Tuesday. Now the previous week we had built the hours around her current schedule so I had set targets. My target being to have 39 blogs set up with my video player adding and ads running on them.
The daily target was 16 blogs a day as wanted to have them finished by Wednesday. If I pushed back starting them until Tuesday it would still cost me time and mess up my schedule. Also it is not a very good way to be starting your first day working properly by effectively not turning up to complete the work.
Rhea started the work after I said I needed it starting right away because I had already changed the weeks rota for her. I set a target of 1 blog every 15 minutes since it only takes 12 minutes to do a blog, Rhea started and had 4 blogs done in 45 minutes. Wow I thought she could do 5 blogs an hour with the system we have set up, all of a sudden she vanished off Skype and I get an e-mail which you can view below.

Sorry I was not able to finish the task. I really wanted to have a homebase job to finally make it out from the office stuffs but I just can’t do it right now. I realized it would be unfair for you if I keep the job because I won’t be productive enough to deserve the pay you’ll give me.
I am really sorry but I have made up my mind to change my focus at this time. After tonight’s meeting and after hearing my intention to resign, my manager offered me bigger salary and nicer opportunity that I think I would consider and would be great for me.
Sorry if I won’t be able to finish the task you expect me to do but I can’t really do it this time.
Thanks for the opportunity though, you are a great employer and I am sure you’ll find someone else as a replacement for me.

Well to say I wasn’t pleased would be an understatement, it wouldn’t have been so bad if she had spoken to me through Skype so I could address her concerns, but it was a rather cowardly way to quit.
Either way, I sent her a reply as I really wanted to retain her services as she does good work on my blogs and I have already spent a week bringing her up to speed on my business. So I sent her an email to address her concerns.
She got back in touch and said:

You really seem to be a great man. Thanks for understanding. I was really tired yesterday and really thought of giving up. Sorry, after I sent the email I logged out knowing you’ll be angry at me.

I Continue From Here
So we spoke via MSN and agreed to start again and set a new target date for the blogs to be completed, long story short it is now Sunday January 10th and I have not heard anything from Rhea since. So I have had to go about seeking someone else to run things for me in 2010 which means more training and investing of my time.
Lessons Learned From This Experience
- Never take anyone on part time who has a day job
- Only ever pay monthly and not after a weeks work
- Seek a replacement if let down more than once
So it hasn’t all been a bad thing this little experience and I hope you can learn from it also to save yourself time when you choose to outsource.
Wow this blog is longer than I had planned, so I will end it now and shortly start another blog on what else has happened in the first week of January.

From Monday Rhea Will Be Running My Home Business
I am really excited at the moment as from Monday January 4th I will no longer be running my business in the way I have been doing for the past few years and wearing all the hats. For the past few years I have done the following tasks daily for my information products business:
Creating Products
Building Web Sites
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Web 2.0 And Link Building
Handling Customer Support
All these tasks have kept me working in my business and not growing my business at the pace and speed I would have liked. One reason I kept doing all these tasks instead of hiring someone else is because I am a control freak and have a particular way of doing things which I wouldn’t trust anyone else to do.
But on Christmas day (YES I did a little work while drinking Baileys Irish Creme Liquor) I decided I wanted to change things in 2010 and to take my information products business to a whole new level. So I decided to contact a few people about working for me and helping me grow my business now and into the future and the first person who responded I immediately got on with, her name is Rhea and she is going to prove a very valuable part of my team and growing my business in 2010.
She started on the 28th and I have fast tracked her through the tasks I need her to do weekly to operate my business and do the tasks I do weekly. So from Monday Rhea will be taking care of all the above tasks and taking care of the day to day running of my business.
I Will Be Focusing On Training To Get Fit Again
One hazard of working hard at your computer or working from home is the fact you are always within reach of food and do not get much exercise, so after months of not training since the end of my 16 week challenge where I lost loads of weight, I have put a bit of weight back on. Now with all the free time I now have from Monday 4th now that I am not running my business, this means I can now focus on my health and getting fit again as I want to start back up doing Mixed Martial Arts which is a great passion of mine and jogging.
